NORTH NEWTON, KAN- Bethel College theater students will present William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" during a regional tour in January. Participants in the interterm theater trip will learn and participate in a variety of theater roles to prepare for the performances. The play will be performed at area high schools, as well as in Colorado. Accompanying the theater tour will be Brent Noel, the director, and Donna Becker, interim dean for student development. Local performances of "Macbeth" by William Shakespeare will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Bethel College Mennonite Church, and at 8 p.m., Jan. 31 and Feb. 1-2 in the Administration Building Chapel.
Participants in the tour will include Bethany Amstutz, sophomore from Goessel; J.J. Birky, junior from Colorado Springs, Colo.; Ivonne Cabrera, sophomore from McPherson; Henry Dick, sophomore from Bloomington, Ill.; Ben Gundy, freshman from Bluffton, Ohio; Dave Hasegawa, junior from Sanger, Calif.; Jared Hawkley, sophomore from Homewood, Ill.; Jami Reeves, freshman from Buhler; Jeremy Schrag, junior from Moundridge; Nick Schrag, freshman from Freeman, S.D.; Ian Swanson, senior from Lindsborg; Taryn Temple, fifth-year student from McPherson; and Maria Tschetter, sophomore from Freeman, S.D.
"One of the goals is to create a collaborative company of theatre makers where each person contributes to all aspects of a major production," says director Brent Noel.
This trip is a part of the college's January interterm, in which students study one subject for a month. This year other students will also travel to Chicago, New York City, Jerusalem and Guatemala. Many students also study on campus.
