Bethel College singers place at NATS

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. – Bethel College freshmen Ben Kliewer from Buhler and Caitlin Welch from Lawrence advanced to the final round in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Conference Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 in Kearney, Neb. Kliewer received second place in the freshmen men's division. Welch took fourth place in the freshmen women's division. "I am very proud of the way all our students performed," Kathryn Kasper, associate professor of music, said, adding, "We have some very talented singers."

Other Bethel students participating were Micah Bales, junior from Wichita, Greta J. Steingard, junior from Henderson, Neb., Amber Celestin, senior from Newton, and Bethany Joy Amstutz, junior from Goessel. Christopher Shaw, senior from Peabody, was the accompanist.

Each student prepared three songs for the audition. Nearly 300 students from colleges in Kansas, Wyoming, Colorado and Nebraska competed at the event.
