September 11th, 2017

NORTH NEWTON, KAN. - Bethel College journalism students received awards of excellence at the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press awards ceremony last month. More than 43 colleges and universities in the state gather each spring to compete for awards in all areas of journalism. Bethel College students were honored for their contributions to The Bethel Collegian, the campus newspaper. Erin D. Schmidt, senior from Newton, won honorable mention for photo essay.

Jessica Rose Gibson, senior, from Overland Park, took second place in feature writing.

Rachael Yoder, senior from Goshen, Ind., won honorable mention for feature photography.

Ian Swanson, senior from Lindsborg, was awarded honorable mention for column writing.

Ian Huebert, sophomore from Henderson, Neb., won honorable mention in the cartoons category.

Chris Janzen, junior from Fresno, Calif., and Ian Gingrich-Gaylord, senior from Wichita, won honorable mention in the cartoons category.

The advisor for The Bethel Collegian is Christine Crouse-Dick.

"These students have worked hard to provide consistent, quality material to the campus newspaper. I am pleased the KACP judges recognized the students' talent and dedication to the art of journalism," Crouse-Dick says.
