NORTH NEWTON, KANSAS, U.S.A.--Bethel College Alumni Choir, a group of 32 Bethel College alumni and their spouses, will travel in June for a 13-day, six-concert tour of Europe. Although student choirs have traveled to Europe before, this is the first tour for Bethel College choir alumni. The choir will sing a short program at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, June 7 at Kidron-Bethel in North Newton. Admission is free and open to the public.
The tour will include concerts in Haarlem and Leeuwarden in The Netherlands, Wuppertal and Weierhof in Germany, and Einsiedeln and Langnau in Switzerland as well as home stays and visits to Austria and the Czech Republic.
Former Bethel College music professors Walter Jost and Marles Preheim will conduct the choir. Both are Bethel College graduates. Jost taught at the college from 1960 to 1992 and Preheim from 1977 to 1999. The accompanist is pianist Mory Ortman, a 1993 Bethel College graduate from New York, N.Y. The college's alumni relations director, Dave Linscheid, a 1975 graduate, will travel with the group.
Alumni on the tour graduated from Bethel College between 1949 and 1993. They represent 10 states: California, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, New York, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
"We're gratified that these alumni enjoyed participating in choir during their Bethel years and wanted to join with others to create a special choir experience again," Linscheid says.
