Tropical Biology

Tropical Biology (Costa Rica)

  • Offered every other year during the January interterm
  • Open to any major but of special interest to biology and environmental science majors
  • Meets the Common Ground requirement in Cross-Cultural Learning
  • Prerequisite: one semester of organismal biology (a lower-level class such as Environmental Science,  Botany, Zoology or Animal Behavior)

Features of the Tropical Biology travel course

  • Learning about culture and history of Costa Rica
  • Exposure to multiple ecosystems: montane rain forest; lowland rain forest; dry forest; marine coastal
  • Study of a selected current research area in tropical ecology
  • Examination of environmental problems in the tropics, and efforts to solve them
