Is your company interested in hosting a Business Intern?
Bethel College is one of only two schools in Kansas to be profiled in the 2009-10 edition of Colleges of Distinction. The Colleges of Distinction are a unique group of 200 colleges and universities that excel at:
- engaging students
- providing outstanding teaching
- a vibrant community
- successful student outcomes
In addition, Bethel is the only Kansas private college to be ranked in Forbes.com’s listing of “America’s Best Colleges” for 2010, and one of only two Kansas private colleges ranked in the top tier of U.S. News & World Report’s Best National Liberal Arts Colleges category for 2010. Bethel College is a private, coeducational, four-year, liberal arts college, and the oldest Mennonite college in North America. Bethel College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The Department of Business & Economics supports the mission of Bethel College by seeking to engage and inspire students to become ethical and principled men and women who will engage in the work of business with moral integrity and principled decision-making abilities.
The Business & Economics Internship is the capstone experience that provides students with hands-on, applied experience in a work setting. Ideally, the internship will enable students to:
- integrate and use their knowledge and skills from the classroom
- discover where further development is needed
- take steps to gain that competence under educational supervision
- become better acquainted with the types of work settings in which such development can be applied
Internships are an applied educational experience, allowing students to link theory with practice under the supervision of working professionals. Supervisors and students should work together to design an educational experience that is beneficial to the organization and the student. The intern is eager to put newly acquired technical and analytical skills to work in the business environment, and your organization will benefit from that enthusiasm. The most successful internships match students’ interests and abilities with employers’ needs. We encourage employers to explore, with the student, possible areas of work for the internship and to prepare a position description which captures those agreed upon activities.
Internships prepare students for a professional career related to their major; therefore it is critical that interns get “hands-on” experiences. Throughout the course of the internship, we encourage you to meet with your intern on a regular basis and to provide clear guidelines about your expectations for the work to be accomplished. Since the internship is a learning experience for the student, we ask you to provide constructive feedback regularly during the time the intern is working for you.
We appreciate your willingness to make it possible for our students to initiate their transition from student to business professional. You are an integral and essential part of our student’s professional training. Thank you. Note: All fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.
