Seek. Serve. Grow.

Bethel people are passionate – about academics, music, forensics, sports, work, art, worship, service, conversation. Everyone here is passionate about something, usually several things.

He enjoyed traveling overseas on a Bethel German Interterm trip, on a madrigal tour of Colombia, and a select choir festival tour through Europe that culminated in Vienna, Austria. During Dave’s junior year, he earned social work credit as a student staff member (with three other Bethel students) at Elm Street House, a halfway house for Prairie View patients in Newton.

After college, he worked as a mental health worker at Prairie View 1975–77; lived, worked and studied in Vienna, and traveled across Europe 1977–78; worked as an assistant in the Bethel drama department 1978–79; and as an assistant at Jim Stucky Photographics 1979–81.

From 1981–86, he worked in the Bethel Admissions Office, serving as associate director for three years and director for two.

From 1986–2000, he was communications director for the binational General Conference Mennonite Church denomination, overseeing News Service, serving as publisher of the denominational magazine The Mennonite magazine, representing the denomination on Der Bote committee for that German publication with the Conference of Mennonites in Canada, overseeing communication for binational conventions, and facilitating the communications work of the General Board and commissions of the denomination. He helped facilitate the change to Mennonite Church USA, including joint communications projects. The Religious Public Relations Council honored Dave with several national communications awards.

In 2000, Dave returned to Bethel College as director of alumni relations. He coordinates the work of the Alumni Association; facilitated the creation of the African-American Alumni Association; strengthened both the Alumni Council and Student Alumni Association; created and edits the electronic newsletter Thresher E-View, serves on the editorial board of Bethel College Context magazine; coordinates Fall Festival, phonathon and Alumni Weekend; and manages gatherings and other events and projects for alumni and friends of the college. Highlights include facilitating an alumni choir tour across Europe in 2003, hosting golf tournaments and alumni nights at baseball, meeting with African-American Alumni Association members across the U.S., honoring alumni award recipients, and working with the Alumni Council, and with the Student Alumni Association, including its annual Mud Slam Volleyball tournament. Dave currently is a member of the Staff Welfare Committee.
