ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY HOMEPAGE
Welcome to the Abnormal Psychology Homepage!  In this course students will not only be doing reading in the discipline - both foundationally and at the growing edge - but will also be engaged in interaction with the institutions which serve pesons with mental illness along with the persons themselves.  The course also includes a laboratory section in which the classic and current methods which researchers (Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Behavioral Scientists) use to investigate mental illness in its multifarious forms will be studied.

A number of current videos will be used to approach the material in a slightly different way.  These include both more technical videos, e.g., the possible genetic basis of Uni-polar and Bi-polar Disorder, and the more popular cultural full-length Hollywood feature films.  Among the latter include a couple from the following list:  Girl Interrupted,  One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Good Will Hunting,  Ordinary People, Prince of Tides.  Both of these kinds of films will help us to clarify the issues and information relating to not only the concept and type of disorder that comprise the focus of our study, but how professionals may attempt to help the people who are afflicted with such disorders along with some of the stereotypes relating to etiology and treatment which exist in popular culture.

Overall, there is an ongoing attempt to provide the beginning student of Abnormal Psychology with some important and interesting links to relevant resources on the Internet.  Feel welcome to browse through any of the items found below.  Syllabi may be downloaded for your convenience.
