What’s your major? Why did you choose it?

I plan on majoring in Biology because I want to go on to study veterinary medicine. I am minoring in Spanish because I like the language and I took six years before I got to Bethel so I don't want all that schooling to go to waste.

What brought you to Bethel?

I came to Bethel because it gave me the opportunity to get really involved. My family has a long history with Bethel including the fact that I have an aunt who is a professor here and my brother is a student here as well, so I was already familiar with the school. The campus just felt like home, I liked the small-school feel, and I couldn't picture myself anywhere else.

What activities have you been involved in?

I play soccer, work on the Athletic Event Staff, am a member of Student Activities Committee, am a member of the Concert Choir, am a Student Ambassador, and I participate in a weekly bible study.

How are you different now from when you first arrived on campus?

When I first arrived on campus, I was a little intimidated. It's hard going from being a top dog in high school to being a freshman again. Bethel has really brought me out of my shell, though. I feel comfortable striking up conversations with complete strangers on campus and I'm not afraid to say "hi" to everyone I pass on the sidewalk. Bethel has taken me out of my comfort zone and turned the atmosphere at Bethel INTO my comfort zone.

For what are you most proud of Bethel?

I am proud of Bethel for representing small Liberal-arts colleges around the country. We may be tiny, but we are mighty. Our level of academics and athletics are always at a high standard, and our sportsmanship never ceases to make me proud.

How would you like to see Bethel change or improve in the next five years?

I would like for Bethel to continue to become a "greener" campus. I know some work has already been done towards that, but advances continue to be made so there is always room for Bethel to continue to change.

What has been your favorite course so far, and why?

My favorite course so far would probably have to be Zoology. As a biology major with an interest in veterinary medicine, studying the subject was challenging but fascinating. Also, we got to do some really awesome dissection labs. We dissected a fetal pig, a starfish, a shark, and a pigeon just to name a few.

Tell a quick story about a memorable moment from your Bethel days.

Our football team was playing Sterling I believe and I was working the chains on the Sterling sidelines. There was a Sterling fan who was making some comments about how Bethel's record was worse than Sterling's. Later in that game Garrett Hiebert threw a no-look pass behind his back for a touchdown that was later dubbed "the bouquet toss" and which was shown on Sportscenter. Justice was served.

What does it mean to be a Thresher?

A Thresher is a student, a musician, an athlete, an artist, a nurse, a faculty member, an employee of the school, an administrator, a part of this community, a friendly face, a piece of the puzzle.
