Meet the Facilitators

Highly trained guides will facilitate your experience at Discovery Adventure Course at Bethel College, providing the time and space for participants to process their learning and the encouragement to have a great time.

Amber Chalashtari earned a B.A. in interior design from McPherson (Kan.) College, where she was most recently an admissions counselor and financial aid counselor. She also served as an interior design consultant at the The Great Indoors in Boulder, Colo., for a year. She enjoys sports, crafts and spending time with family.
Gregg Dick photoGregg Dick, controller and head golf coach
Gregg Dick began working at Bethel College in 1998 after serving two years as director of finance at Schowalter Villa in Hesston. Prior to this, he worked as vice president of finance at Preferred Health Care in Wichita and staff accountant for Lindburg and Vogel, a CPA firm in Hutchinson. At Bethel, Dick served as accounting manager for three years prior to becoming controller in 2002. Dick also served as assistant women’s basketball coach for six years and has been the head golf coach since the program began in 2003. He participates on various committees and projects, including being a member of the project team for the design and construction of the $5.5 million sports complex.

Lonnie Isaac photoLonnie Isaac, head tennis coach
Lonnie Isaac, a Hillsboro native, is a 1993 Bethel graduate. He returned to Bethel College as head tennis coach in fall of 2006. During his first three years the Bethel women’s team has seen a return to prominence. They have won back to back KCAC Tournament Championships (2008 & 2009) and qualified for the 2009 NAIA National Tennis Championships in Mobile, Alabama. The men’s team has one second place finish and two third place finishes during this same time period. At Bethel, Isaac has coached 11 All-KCAC women and 9 All-KCAC men. He has also coached 10 KCAC All-Academic women’s selections and 7 KCAC All-Academic men’s selections. In addition five women and two men have been named NAIA Academic All-Americans. Coach Isaac has also coached three KCAC Freshmen of the Year (2 female, 1 male) as well as two-time All-American and two-time KCAC Player of the Year, Paige McKinney. The 2007-08 & 2008-09 women’s tennis teams were also recognized as NAIA All-American Scholar Teams. Isaac lives in Hesston with his wife, Tracy, and their three children, Tessa, Rhain and Logan.

A graduate of Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va., Jason Moore began his coaching career in 1999 as an assistant women’s soccer coach at his alma mater, where he helped start the women’s program, compiling a 55-33-4 record over five seasons. Moore graduated from EMU in 1999 with a B.S. in recreation and sports leadership with a concentration in movement sciences. He became the head soccer coach at Bethel in 2008. His professional development includes a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Premier Diploma and an NSCAA National Goal Keeper Diploma. He serves as an NSCAA regional staff instructor.
Chad Schilling photoChad Schilling, head volleyball coach
Chad Schilling begins his 17th year with the Thresher volleyball program and his fifth as the head coach. During his tenure as an assistant coach, the Threshers won the regular-season conference title five times and the KCAC Tournament championship seven times. Schilling led the 2008 team to his first regular-season and tournament championship title as head coach qualfying the team for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time since the 1983 season. Schilling is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association. In addition to coaching volleyball, he serves as Bethel College assistant athletic director and as sports information director.

I am excited to begin facilitating groups on the Discovery Adventure course at Bethel. It is my goal to ensure individuals and groups realize their strengths and improve their self-efficacy. The Newton Public Schools is lucky to be afforded this opportunity, and we welcome the partnership being forged with Bethel College. I have learned so much through this training and hope that I can connect, motivate and empower all who I am fortunate enough to work with on the Adventure course.
Cindy Combs photoCindy Combs
Cindy A. Combs has taught Adapted Physical Education (APE) for 26 years and implemented the first APE program in the Harvey County Special Education Coop in Newton in 1984. She received her BS in Health and Physical Education and in Special Education from Bethel College and her MS in Curriculum and Instruction from Wichita State University. She currently serves as a Field Editor for Palaestra. She was the 2006 AAPAR National Adapted Physical Education Teacher of the year. Cindy has served as adjunct faculty at Bethel College and Wichita State University teaching courses in Adapted Physical Education and Qualitative Research.
