Uncle Carl's Camps
Uncle Carl’s Camps, coordinated through Kauffman Museum, offer a variety of day camps for ages pre-school through grade 8 during the months of June and July, and will be held in the morning.
Cost is $65 museum members, $80 non-members. Each camper receives a t-shirt.

Little Houses On The Prairie
May 28 - 31, ages 4 - 5 (not yet in kindergarten)
Calling all pre-schoolers! Join us in exploring homes from the pioneer days. Come find out who built these homes, what they were made of, where they were built, what they did inside the homes, and why they did things that way! We'll be exploring inside and outside, so come prepared for both! The camp will run from 9:00am to 11:30am each day, and will be led by Kristin Neufeld Epp of New Creation Preschool.
Unraveling History's Mysteries
June 3 - 7, ages 9 - 12 (or completed grade 3 - 6)
Get ready to dig deep in the local archives, interview historians, and do some detective work. Campers will investigate the rich history of the Kauffman Museum, Bethel College, and the local community. Come study artifacts, explore hidden stairways and discover old bell towers. Are you ready for adventure? The camp will be led by Monty Graber of the Hesston school district.
Survivor: Prairie
June 10 - 14, ages 6 - 8 (or completed grade K - 2)
Campers in "tribes" will learn how native plants, animals, insects, and even people have adapted to life on the prairies of Kansas. These "natives" learned to outwit, outgrow, and outlast to become Kansas survivors. Can you? The camp will be led by Amber Celestin of Butler Community College.
Watercolor My World 1
June 17 - 21, ages 6 - 7 (or completed grade k - 1)
Discover a variety of techniques for working with watercolors. Drawing from observation, campers will use nature and objects from Kauffman Museum exhibits as subjects for their artwork. An art show will complete the week. Come color your world! The camp will be led by LaDonna Unruh Voth of the Newton school district.

June 24 - 28, ages 8 - 10 (or completed grade 2 - 4)

True Colors Shining Through
July 8 - 12, ages 11 - 14 (or completed grade 5-8)
Campers will study the many ways artists use color in their work. They will look at museum artifacts that use color symbolically and explore the role of color in our language. Projects will include acrylic painting, painting from observation and 2D images, painting using color symbolically and as personal expression, and making visual representations of phrases that use color. The camp will be led by Kathy Schroeder of the Hesston School District.
One Room, Many Lessons: Sand Creek School 1935*
July 15 - 19, ages 7 - 14 (or completed grade 1-8)
Re-enact a one-room school from the mid-1930s in central Kansas, with students from first through eighth grades. Campers will recite from period readers, practice manners from the early 1900s, learn to write by the Palmer Method with pen and ink, play country school games, and learn geography and science typical of the time period. The week will conclude with recitations, songs, poems, and plays for campers’ families. The camp will be led by Karen Kreider Yoder of Touro University in Vallejo, California.
*In this camp only, registration will be limited to two students from each grade until April 15. After April 15, campers will be enrolled in the order in which they are registered, regardless of age or grade.
