- (Above) When Arthur Marks '93, New York, performed in convocation and then gave an evening concert in Krehbiel Auditorium Feb. 11, in connection with receiving the 2008 Young Alumnus Award, his friend Roz Royster '93, joined him for "Up Where We Belong."
- Rebecca Buchta, junior from Newton, received a cash award and a medal in the behavioral science division for her research poster presented at the Student Research Conference of Sigma Xi Nov. 2-3 in Orlando, Fla.
- Joshua Powell, junior from Basehor, placed third in “music theater” at the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing regional meeting Nov. 1-3. The West Central Region covers Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and Kansas.
- Kauffman Museum has announced an agreement with Ichan Kala Museum of Khiva, Uzbekistan, for a project that will portray the life and contributions of Mennonites who lived at Ak Metchet from 1884 to 1935. A public marker at the actual village site is planned for the future.
- Bethel College alumnus Herman Bubbert was one of the successful solvers of two problems published in the Feb. 8 issue of Mathematics Magazine. Kyle Claassen, sophomore from Andover, solved one of the problems published in the February 2008 issue of Math Horizons.
- Three Bethel College music groups were selected by audition to perform during the annual In-Service Workshop of the Kansas Music Educators Association Feb. 28-March 1 in Wichita. The Concert Choir, Jazz Ensemble I and the Jazz Combo joined 46 other instrumental and vocal groups from across the state. A Bethel College group was last selected in 2003.
- The NAIA named 11 Bethel College students Daktronics All-America Scholar-Athletes for 2007-08. To be considered, a student must be at least a junior, have attended the institution a minimum of one full term and have a minimum GPA of 3.50.
- Bethel College senior defensive back Brandon Kauffman, Moundridge, was named a first-team All-American by the Victory Sports Network (VSN), a magazine and Web site that covers NAIA sports. Senior offensive lineman Chase Hansen, Mulvane, was an honorable mention to the VSN All-America team.
- The Bethel College Web site won a bronze award for Excellence in Multimedia for Region VI (Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming) of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education during its annual conference Jan. 12-15. Communication professionals outside the district judged the entries – from four-year colleges and masters-level universities throughout region VI – based on comparison to each other and to each site’s previous design and function.
- The Bethel College Thresher men’s basketball team was recognized in the Feb.12 issue of Sports Illustrated in an article about dribble-drive motion offense as one of the several hundred pro, college and high school teams in the United States running a pattern that has become “all the rage.”
- Several Bethel basketball players received KCAC honors. Jordon Regehr, junior from Halstead, was selected to the Honorable Mention Team and Thomas Buckner, freshman from San Antonio, Texas, to the All-Freshman Team. Amanda Hiebert, freshman from Newton, was named Freshman of the Year and was selected to the First Team and All-Freshman team. Hannah Blackburn, sophomore from Kingman, was selected to the Honorable Mention Team. Angela Wood, freshman from Wichita, also made the All-Freshman Team.
