Internships/Research
- In recent years, several students have obtained summer internships at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. In addition, other students have completed summer assignments and internships in local tertiary facilities in the Wichita area.
- In keeping with Bethel’s emphasis on undergraduate research, nursing students complete a group undergraduate research project which is then presented at Bethel’s Undergraduate Research, Internships and Creative Activity Symposium in the spring or at the Epsilon Gamma Chapter-at-Large Research Day symposium. Content of the studies center on one of the six Quality and Safety Education for Nursing (QSEN) competencies – patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety and informatics.
- In addition, seniors complete a capstone project as part of their final requirements for graduation. The capstone project is a scholarly project that addresses a nursing practice issue of the student’s choice relevant to their capstone placement.
- Finally, a new initiative is the collaboration of the department with the Harvey County Health Department in assisting a part of the comprehensive health assessment beginning in Harvey County. Students learn firsthand about the community assessment process and participate in the data collection.
