Careers
With a history degree from Bethel College, you can aspire to a number of different careers, including but not limited to teaching, law, Christian ministry, public service, library science, museum or archival work, and business. All kinds of institutions, from museums to corporations, call on historians to help document and organize information about the past or to educate the public about certain aspects of the past. Historians have research skills that make them valuable assets in addressing contemporary problems and devising policy solutions. Because of these skills, many history graduates find themselves working in diplomatic or policymaking arenas, such as foreign or civil service. As a history graduate, you may be well-suited to teach history in secondary school, or you may choose to go on to pursue graduate degrees in history and teach at the university level. Because historians are trained to think causally, many history graduates often gravitate toward law as a profession. Historians’ organizational skills make them ideal for jobs requiring administration, archival work and/or editing. Finally, historians’ understanding of the dynamics of social change and the particularities of different cultural groups lends itself to success in voluntary service projects.
The Center for Career Development and Placement can assist students in preparing for and obtaining a career upon graduation.
